George leafleting in Inverness Today sees polling day in the Inverness West by election. Solidarity’s small platoon of activists have delivered our election leaflet to every house in the mixed ward – easily the best leaflet of the campaign and the only one to seriously outline policies on defending public services, scrapping the council tax, opposing expensive Public Private Partnerships and creating local green jobs.
George MacDonald, our candidate has established himself as the working class anti establishment candidate who’d be prepared to enter the council to rock the boat, not sit on the gravy train.
Party members have also distributed Solidarity’s new four page tabloid bulletin through doors in every working class area in the constituency with a local insert featuring vox pops of voters in the area who will be backing Solidarity. Local voter Steve from Clachnaharry said ‘I’ll be voting for George No1 on my ballot paper because he is the only candidate that stands for both socialism and independence. I was disappointed that the SNP abandoned their manifesto promise to introduce a bill to scrap the council tax and I’m glad at least that Solidarity are continuing to highlight the need to replace the council tax with a fairer system’ Elaine from Dalneigh said ‘I know George and I’ll be voting for him because I know that as a councillor he won’t take no for an answer when it comes to fighting for the interests of local folk.’ Neil from Scorguie said ‘The SNP and Labour have had their chance. It’s time for a fresh voice and Solidarity are the most consistent party around. I am saying to my friends vote for George with your first vote if you can, but if you must vote for one of the old establishment parties then at least make sure you give George your second vote.’ Grace from Muirton said ‘I’ve backed George and Solidarity before and won’t be changing this time. The Peace movement and the anti-war movement are important to me and George and Solidarity have always been there backing us. I know George is passionate as well about getting more affordable local housing for our young folk and that’s very important.’ Josh from the Bught said ‘As a Christian I feel Solidarity’s policies of putting people before greed are the right ones. I’m annoyed that there’s another party standing in this election (the Scottish Christian Party) who are using the name of my faith, and its symbol, the cross, for party political purposes.’ |
