Gerry Carey, Jim Halfpenny, James Kane and Lorraine Markwick will face a Council investigation after WDC claim they breached their contracts by not crossing the line.  Rosemary Byrne, former National Secretary of the EIS, Scotland's largest teaching union, said:

"This is a disgraceful action and designed to harrass and intimidate teachers who support the council workers strike.  Solidarity will be adding our support to the calls to drop this investigation.  All trade unionists should write to the council to express their concern."

Local SSP councillor Jim Bolland was one of 22 councillors who had also refused to cross a picket Line that day, but face no action.  He said:

"We are concerned that there is an apparent attempt to intimidate, bully or harass four members of the EIS who refused to cross picket lines..... As elected members we insist that the same rules apply to everyone and employees should not be treated differently from elected members as this smells of rank hypocrisy.  This enquiry should be abandoned.”
