Concerned for the welfare of all workers Graham Meldrum was killed in a workplace incident on the 12th of July 2005 at Allied bakeries in The Balmore industrial estate.

His death now the subject of a prosecution under health and safety laws, the 2 companies being prosecuted are ABF GRAIN PRODUCTS (FORMALLY KNOWN AS ALLIED BAKERIES) and TNT LOGISTICS UK LIMITED.

Graham was 40 years old, he left elderly parents, a partner and children to mourn and pick up the pieces. Graham’s death was horrific and needless. A gifted decent man was denied his tomorrows. Graham was renowned for his respect and care for all workers, his 16 years as a transport manager at greencity wholefoods testament to this.

Graham’s stint as a agency driver with, SUZIELINE BELLSHILL, short term to allow him to gain experience driving hgv1 vehicles.  Graham loved machines, his building of cycles as a youngster, his restoration of classic motorbikes, his inventing and building of his beloved trike, his working as a driver as opposed to using his phd in chemistry made him unique.

Graham was a very artistic welder who hated greed, loved life, worked hard and was partial to a beer or three. His disjointed dancing and love of punk music as well as Johnny Cash made us all smile.  We have to learn from his death, it cant be in vain.

We ask you to remember him today, we ask you to look after yourself and your colleagues regardless of who they are, temporary, casual, agency, whoever, we all have the right to life.  So please look after yourself today, you are worth more than any cost or time cutting exercise, you are worth more than any target regardless of who set it.

We understand the pressures of work as did Graham but they are not worth dying for.

Graham’s family and friends have had to endure his loss, we don’t wish it for any other family.

Glasgow Sheriff Court, 15th - 19th September 2008 The Graham Meldrum Memorial Campaign announce the 7th and final week of the fatal accident inquiry into the death of Dr. Meldrum. This week, the summing up, brings to a close a journey of over three years where his family and friends have had to fight every inch for truth and justice.  The paltry fines handed out to ABF Grains and TNT Logistics in November '07 bearing no relevance to the horrific death of a young man and the ongoing trauma suffered by his family.  Throughout the previous six weeks they have heard evidence that amounts to a callous disregard for the well being of workers and the road worthiness of commercial vehicles. The Graham Meldrum Memorial Campaign criticizes ALL involved in the death of Dr Graham Meldrum.  From those who did little to those who did nothing. We also despair at our STILL weak health and safety laws which allow employers to get away with murder! Notes to editors:Graham Meldrum was killed in a workplace incident on the 12th of July 2005 at Allied Bakeries in the Balmore Industrial Estate.  He was employed by Suziline Agency contracted to ABF Grains (formerly known as Allied Bakeries) & TNT Logistics UK.
