Support for the Sheridan Seven Grows Print E-mail

rtActor and political activist Ricky Tomlinson has added his support to the campaign to defend Tommy Sheridan and his comrades and family who have become victims of the Murdoch-inspired political witch-hunt.

Tomlinson could not attend the forthcoming campaign rally but sent a message of support to the campaign saying "Tommy's crime in their eyes is to successfully lead a great movement against the poll tax and go on to be elected in his prison cell as a workers' leader.  The Labour Movement and all those committed to uphold natural justice should unite in defence of workers' leaders who find themselves in this position."

Meanhwile the Scottish Regional Secretary of the FBU, Kenny Ross, has called on FBU members to give full support to the campaign.  In a message to all FBU officials in the UK he says, "In the true spirit of solidarity, it is incumbent on us to reciprocate the unconditional support that he has given us for so long."

The Public Rally to Defend the Sheridan 7 will be held in Langside Halls Glasgow on Saturday 7th June at 1pm

Speakers include Bob Crow, Janice Godrich, Kenny Ross, Gerry Conlon & John McManus

I extend full support to this Great Rally called to defend Tommy Sheridan from the witchunt instigated by the media in a vengeful attempt to crucify Tommy for his success in successfully suing the Murdoch empire in a court of law.
The history of the Trade Union and Labour Movement shows that any attempt to challenge power and privilege in society by workers' leaders will be met with the force of the state.
As an imprisoned Shrewsbury Picket, along with Des Warren whose life was shortened by his terrible ordeal in prison, I know at first hand the terrible consequences that can result from challenging the capitalists and their state.
Tommy's crime in their eyes is to successfully lead a great movement against the poll tax and go on to be elected in his prison cell as a workers' leader.
The Labour Movement and all those committed to uphold natural justice should unite in defence of workers' leaders who find themselves in this position.
I will continue to campaign for a pardon for the Shrewsbury Pickets and pledge my full support to the continuing campaign in defence of Tommy Sheridan.
In solidarity
RICKY TOMLINSON
