Internationalism is at the Heart of Solidarity |

Internationalism has been and continues to be one of Solidarity’s key priorities. It is based on the understanding that an economic system predicated on profit regardless of the human, social or environmental cost is global in scope and reach.
This means that resistance and opposition to it must also take on a global aspect. Under globalization workers across the world have found themselves plunged into a race to the bottom with one another as they compete for the favours of global corporations.
It is for this reason that the wages and conditions of Scottish workers have diminished and will continue to diminish in real terms. As a socialist party which fights for a world in which cooperation and solidarity replaces competition and endless wars for markets and resources, we reject the idea that workers must compete for the crumbs from the table of global corporations whose profits rise year on year to levels that are beyond obscene.
The right to a living wage, to a decent pension, to dignity and job security is a universal right regardless of nationality. We adhere to the belief that the working class have no borders and, indeed, our commitment to Scottish independence is a result of this belief. With the break-up of the British State the most destructive force in human history, US imperialism, will be significantly weakened. This will be to the benefit of billions around the world who’re currently suffering as a consequence of its reach, both economically and militarily.
Our members have played key roles in various campaigns in support of workers and oppressed peoples across the world. We take a keen interest in developments with regard to the Cuban Revolution, the Bolivarian Revolution in Venezuela, in addition to the labour and immigrant rights movements in the US and in Europe. Our members continue to play key and active roles within the antiwar movement and the international campaign in support of Palestinian human rights.
At our 2007 winter conference this commitment to internationalism was reaffirmed with an overwhelming vote to affiliate to various international solidarity campaigns. As such, we are proud to announce our affiliation to Stop the War, the Scottish Palestine Solidarity and the Cuba Solidarity Campaigns.
We are Solidarity and we believe in taking sides. |
