PCS Members Fight Back Print E-mail
PCS members in the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) have voted overwhelmingly to take industrial action against the derisory pay offer made by the management of the DWP. The two-day strike takes place on Thursday 06 December and Friday 07 December.

The union membership is sending a message to Gordon Brown that public sector workers have had enough of low pay, job insecurity, rotten conditions at work and privatisation.

Solidarity, Scotland’s Socialist Movement offers our 100% support to PCS members in their continued struggle.

Solidarity – Scotland’s Socialist Movement, includes many PCS members including NEC members Alan Brown, Danny Williamson, Cheryl Gedling and PCS President Janice Godrich. Alongside other socialists and members of PCS Left Unity, we have helped draw up tactics and strategy, unity in action that has delivered success in the face of the most concerted assaults on our jobs, pay and conditions yet. Get involved in your union – activity makes us strong. But also get active in building an active left and socialist opposition to the diet of wars, terrorism, cuts and privatisation which blight our daily lives.

Speaking to PCS members, Solidarity Co-Convenor, Tommy Sheridan said:

"On behalf of Solidarity I want to offer you 100% support for your action today. It is a disgrace that you have been driven to take industrial action in defence of pay and conditions against this New Labour government. Long before the current crisis brought on by wealthy business men channeling funds to Labour, Gordon Brown had already nailed his political colours to the mast by inviting Margaret Thatcher for tea and appointing ex-CBI boss Digby Jones to the cabinet. PCS members have already shown that they refuse to lie down before this big business agenda. You can be sure that Solidarity will stand shoulder to shoulder with you in your fight for decency and dignity.”
