 Rally in Support of the Daycare Workers

Now in their fifth week of indefinite industrial action, Glasgow’s Daycare workers will join supporters in Glasgow city centre this weekend. The strike remains solid with all drop-in centres closed and the vast majority of service users and carers fully supporting the workers.
Over £17,000 has been collected for the strike fund so far but it is essential that support is kept up as the fight continues. UNISON Social Work Secretary, Brian Smith said:
“these workers have shown a determination and willingness to fight that the Council did not expect. The workers are committed to the service they provide however it is an outrage that the Council has refused to apply their own equal pay job evaluation scheme in a fair and transparent way. These workers deserve to be on higher pay grades. All other council workers, trade unionists and socialists should be at the Rally on Saturday"
Solidarity Co-Convenor Rosemary Byrne urged all Solidarity members to support the workers:
“Solidarity members will show our full support for the Daycare workers, our members will join the rally on Saturday and I hope will continue to support the strike fund.”
