Rosyth Workers Vote to Strike Print E-mail
Friday, 27 July 2007

Workers at Rosyth Dockyard have voted overwhelmingly in support of strike action over changes to pensions.  The technical staff, managers and engineers who are members of PROSPECT voted 73% in favour of strike action with other unions expected to support the action soon.

Jock Penman, Solidarity Trade Union Co-ordinator and former shop steward at the docks backed the action:

"The Management at Babcock have imposed these changes without consultation with the unions. This is no way to treat a workforce and the Prospect members feel that they have no option but to take action.  Solidarity will support the action.

"We are the party of trade unionists in Scotland, fighting for the same rights and conditions as the unions, we will stand alongside these workers as we did for Simclar and Sunvic workers, and as we do for public service workers, where Solidarity members are involved on the frontline of the fighback against Brown's bosses agenda."

The stike is expected to start in early August, followed by a work-to-rule and further strike action later that month.
